The Smith Brothers made it their goal in 1985 to provide better service than any other plumbing business in Australia by offering superior customer service and high reliability; by building and maintaining long-term relationships with customers that exceeded expectations of service, integrity and value.
Smith Brothers were the first plumbers to offer ‘same day service’ and a ‘plumber within the hour’ while other plumbers were still in ‘I’ll be there tomorrow or the next’ mode. Pipeline Technology Services was one of the first of its kind in Australia.
This continuing commitment to exceeding expectations of customers’ needs makes Smith Brothers the leaders in customer service and innovation.
Today, the Smith Brothers Group is one of Australia’s largest service providers employing over 150 employees, in our Construction & Service Plumbing, Electrical, Hot Water and Pipeline divisions from the head office in Adelaide, South Australia.

Our Head office is located close to the CBD of Adelaide, South Australia at 386 South Road Richmond. The premises are specifically designed to provide an office, store, warehouse and handling facility for our operations complete with overhead crane and forklifts. The facility contains a servicing bay for the Pipeline trucks. We have a separate hard stand area for storage of site offices, containers and heavy construction machinery and equipment.
For on-site works, we have a range of transportable site offices, air-conditioned and fully equipped with signage, phone, fax, CAD facilities, two-way radio communications, computers and photocopiers. We have secure material lock-up containers and specially designed equipment & tool lock-up mobile containers.
We operate a large fleet of earthmoving equipment for installation work with our own directly employed operators, trained and licensed in their operation and maintenance.
Our main store is stocked for all plumbing and pipeline emergency repairs and replacements. All brands of hot water services are in stock and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also have an arrangement with our major suppliers to open their stores after hours should the need arise.
Our focus is customer service and technical innovation. We aim to provide better service than any other plumbing business in Australia by offering superior customer service and high reliability and by building and maintaining long term relationships with customers that exceed expectations of service, integrity and value.
We are firmly committed to investing in our country’s future economy through investment in our people; the training of apprentices; excellence in qualified and competent plumbing practices and in the research and development of new innovations and solutions.
A successful business must anticipate and be able to easily adapt to change in response to the market place. Our growth has come about through our capacity to change and constantly challenge and improve our methods; by being innovative and taking on new technologies. We have built a culture where employees have a sense of life-long learning, of loyalty and achievement about their work and their company.
The core business of Smith Brothers is plumbing. Plumbers and apprentices make up 80% of our workforce. This career stream includes Division Managers, Project Managers, Estimators, Site Supervisors, Foremen and Leading Hands. All our plumbers have completed a four year apprenticeship with national accreditation. Industry and project specific training is planned and undertaken as required.
Australia has a current national trade shortage. Our specific focus is on ensuring there will be sufficient qualified plumbing tradespeople for the future. We have continuously employed apprentices for over 20 years and work hard to attract and retain people to the trade. We do this by offering work experience to over 50 students per year; talking at schools and TAFE about the opportunities in a plumbing career; aim to recruit 5-10 apprentices per year and have continuous post trade training for all our plumbers.
As licensed EcoSmart plumbers, our service plumbers are trained in water audits and in the design and installation of environmentally sustainable plumbing solutions for home and business situations.
Plumbing is a multi skilled trade, with increasing use of new products and installation solutions. By rotating our apprentices and tradesmen through different projects and divisions, their knowledge and skills increase.
The culture of knowledge sharing and wealth of experienced tradespeople facilitates multi skilling, innovation and team work. In recent years issues such as Legionnaires Disease, Water Saving, Green Buildings & Energy Efficiency feature in building projects and our plumbers learn new skills and a working knowledge of environmental care.
